The Castle of Santa Maria da Feira is one of the most notable Portuguese military monuments. The diversity of its defensive resources used between the 11th and 16th centuries makes it a unique piece of our military architecture.

Description
For the Fair, and for Portugal, it has always represented a symbol of national identity. Throughout history, it has performed several tasks: it was a Castro of Roman occupation, a bulwark against Norman invasions, a military fort at the time of the Reconquest, seat of a military region, the great political center that led to the independence of Portugal and housing of royal and noble families .
The Surveillance Commission of the Castle of Santa Maria da Feira, in partnership with DRCN, developed a Project for the Conservation and Remodeling of the Castle, with the support of community funds, which consisted essentially of carrying out conservation and restoration works of the Chapel, conservation and remodeling of the keep.
Today, the Castle is prepared to perform the functions of a Cultural Pole in the vast region in which it is inserted and which was once a region called Terra de Santa Maria.
