Almodôvar is a Portuguese village belonging to the District of Beja, region of Alentejo and sub-region of Baixo Alentejo, with about 3 000 inhabitants.
It is the seat of a municipality with an area of ??777.88 km² and 7 449 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 6 parishes. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Castro Verde, to the east by Mértola, to the southeast by Alcoutim, to the south by Loulé, to the southwest by Silves and to the west and northwest by Ourique.
With an urban nucleus at the municipal headquarters, Almodôvar is located on the plain close to the mountains. It is a medieval village of military religious order jurisdiction (order of Santiago) integrating the pre-existence of a fortified Islamic settlement.
Despite the historical richness and the diversity of the more or less humanized landscapes of the Municipality of Almodôvar, it is through affection that all the presence of the past is deepened and internalized, far from the stereotypes of the modern world.
