The origins of the foundation of the Church of Abade de Neiva seem to go back to the 12th century and to the initiative of Queen D. Mafalda. The current monument, consisting of a church and a tower, dates from the 16th century and is an important landmark of the Romanesque / Gothic style in the Cávado basin, not because of its size but because it is contemporary with the foundation of nationality, associated with the process of reconquest. It has been a National Monument since 1927.
