It is a characteristic palace of the late Middle Ages, built in the first half of the 15th century, by order of D. Afonso 8th Count of Barcelos, 1st Duke of Bragança. The Archaeological Museum was installed there at the beginning of the 20th century. It has been classified as a National Monument since 1910
