Braga Cathedral, comprising the tombs, namely those of Count D. Henrique and D. Teresa, Infante D. Afonso and Archbishop D. Gonçalo Pereira
R. Dom Paio Mendes, 4700-424
Braga
The works of the current Sé de Braga started during the episcopate of D. Pedro (bishop of Braga from 1070 to 1093), who conceived a pilgrimage project somewhat similar to that of Santiago de Compostela and other French pilgrimage churches, with three naves, projecting transept, head and deambulatory.
The main façade was substantially transformed in the 15th and 18th centuries, the galilee belonging to the first of these moments. The interior of the Cathedral maintains a distant medieval character.
On the ground floor of the south side tower, the tomb of Infante D. Afonso, from the 15th century and protected by a canopy, is preserved.
The Capela da Glória is the oldest and dates back to the 14th century. It was ordered to be built by Archbishop D. Gonçalo Pereira, who was buried there, in the center of the chapel, in a Gothic tomb of the utmost importance for the history of the Portuguese medieval tomb, due to the analogies it presents in relation to the tomb of the Holy Queen, in Coimbra.
