From the top of Monte de Faro we can see, to the west, the entire Atlantic coast between Póvoa de Varzim and Esposende.
Palmeira de Faro
Esposende
Right in front of the old village of Fão, Ofir and its petrified "horses", and the city of Esposende on the estuary of the Cávado river. At this southern tip of the fossil cliff, the rock massif that characterizes the geography of the coastline, receives the suggestive name of Monte do Faro. Here, to be authentic in the medieval documentation - subtus mons Faro - there must have been a watchtower and a flare or torch, with the mission of watching and transmitting to interior areas, possibly to the Castle of Faria, which was happening around the mouth do Cávado in times of siege by forces hostile to the region.
