Albufeira de Vilarinho das Furnas
The Vilarinho das Furnas reservoir results from the construction of a dam, inaugurated in 1972, with 94m of height and 400m of crowning extension, which fed by the waters of the Homem River, causes the flooding of an area of 346ha. Under its waters, and despite the protests of the inhabitants, at the end of the dictatorship, the remains of the community village of Vilarinho da Furna remain, which can be seen when the electricity company makes considerable water discharges.

Description
This reservoir works as a water reservoir at a higher level than the Caniçada reservoir, which in some periods by the action of the force of gravity, the water is guided by a conduit and drives a power station in the neighboring dam; during other periods, when the consumption of the electric network is low, the water is pumped, returning to the initial reservoir.
The clear waters of this reservoir also serve as a canvas for the natural and exuberant beauty of the surrounding mountains of Gerês and Amarela, which changes the landscape throughout the year. From the reflection of the snow-covered peaks in winter, to the lush yellow, pink and green hues of brush and oak, over the intense blue of the sky.
Nautical Activities
In the Vilarinho da Furna reservoir, leisure activities, fishing and swimming are allowed. In the case of fishing, the Albufeira de Vilarinho das Furnas Fishing Concession Regulation must be consulted.
As for swimming practice, it must be taken into account, that it is a reservoir of margins and irregular bottom, with the presence of natural debris that can cause accidents.

The dam's wall allows light cars to pass carefully between the villages of Campo do Gerês and Brufe and in the direction of Ponte da Barca or Lindoso.
