The monument to Bom Jesus das Mós, erected by the indomitable will of Father Manuel José Martins Capela (1842-1925) who managed to congregate faithful, countrymen and other enthusiasts of the traditional beliefs of the Portuguese people - is a unique monument to the Sacred Heart of Jesus similar to a keep of a medieval rock castle.

The construction of the monument began in 1902 and was solemnly inaugurated on July 13, 1913. The transport of the statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, between Braga and Carvalheira was done through the Roman route (Geira) and lasted 4 days, being one of the moments more symbolic, emotional and heroic in the history of the construction of the monument.
The monument to Bom Jesus was the first, but it was not the only religious building on Monte das Mós. Over time, as if Monte das Mós became sacred, various religious works were carried out: the chapel of N.ª Senhora da Soledade, the chapel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Via Sacra.
