Santuário de São Bento da Porta Aberta
Terras de Bouro has a very important religious center, with hundreds of years of tradition - São Bento da Porta Aberta. The cult originated with the construction of a small Chapel in the year 1614. As was normal at that time, this chapel had a small porch and the doors were always open, so it served as a shelter for all who passed.

Description
With the growth of the cult, there was a need to expand this construction, and then the temple was built to São Bento, in a work that lasted 15 years, from 1880 to 1895. Important changes were made, such as the placement of a gilded altarpiece. burnished gold, as well as the placement of tile panels, painted by Querubim Lapa, which portray passages in the saint's life.
With the growth that the cult continued to have, in 1998 a new, much larger crypt was inaugurated, built next to the 17th century temple. XIX, work of the architect Luís Cunha.
In April 2015, the title of Basilica was granted by the Holy See to the Sanctuary of S. Bento. This title is granted to some churches, because of their antiquity or because they are great centers of devotion and pilgrimages.
The main dates of pilgrimage are March 21 (Morte de São Bento), July 11 (Feast of the Patron Saint of Europe) and August 10 to 15 (Grande Pilgrimage Popular).
The Basilica is open every day of the year from 7:30 am until dusk, with the throne of S. Bento accessible as soon as it opens. In the months of July, August and until September 15th the throne is open 24 hours a day.
Guided tours by appointment in Portuguese for groups between 10 to 55 people of about 1 hour in duration.
