Description Mogadouro

Mogadouro is an old town, previous to the foundation of the county Portucalense, having its name probable Arab origin Macaduron.

In this concelho heir of an ancient history, one can still admire many vestiges of the presence of the people who, at least for 6 thousand years, have populated it.

Since the foundation of nationality, the strategic importance of Mogadouro has given it not only with defensive structures, but also with lots and palaces.

A visit to the village to contemplate its Castle, national monument of the XVII century, the Castle of Penas Roias that belonged to the Order of the Templars, and the Convent of San Francisco, probably of the XVI century. We can not miss in Mogadouro the various churches and manor houses. As a natural and scenic heritage, the Valley of Sabor is worthy of mention.

Mogadouro is part of the circuit of the Amendoeiras em Flor, which reach its splendor in February and March.
