The dating of this Church is uncertain. Its patron refers to a pre-Romanesque origin, possibly close to the 9th-10th centuries. Considered the oldest church in the Bishopric of Bragança - Miranda refers to the tradition that was originally dedicated to the Holy Trinity, as evidenced by several groups of figures carved in granite on both sides of the main door.

Considered the oldest church in the Bishopric of Bragança - Miranda refers to the tradition that was originally dedicated to the Holy Trinity, as evidenced by several groups of figures carved in granite on both sides of the main door. In one of these groups there are three busts representing the Holy Trinity; in another, three others, with a larger one in the center, to indicate the distinction of the three divine persons; on the other side of the door there is a single figure, which indicates the meeting of the three divine persons in one God.
The temple that has survived to this day is later, presumably from the 13th century. It was probably remodeled, according to a late-Romanesque costume, although expressing some symbolic characteristics of medieval Trás-os-Montes architecture, such as the exaggerated vertical extension of the main facade, to receive a double bell tower.
There are marks on the doorstep that, according to legend, characterize the horseshoes of a horse. It is considered the oldest church in Trás-os-Montes.
