Museu do Contrabando

This village stands out for its size and characteristics of granite constructions with a slant that varies between vernacular and erudite architecture.

It preserves the memory of previous civilizations in countless vestiges that its occupation left us - a fortified fort reached on the spur of the confluence of the Anta stream, in Tuela, called Cigadonha or Cigarrosa; a sidewalk of medieval origin, which connects the Ponte das Vinhas to the village; some common undertakings such as the threshing floor, the mills, the mills, the fountains, the ovens and the forge.

It has a very rich religious heritage, of which we highlight the Mother Church, probably dating from the 14th century, with its reconstruction dating from the Modern Period (17th - 18th century) and the Casa das Almas or Tulha das Almas.

Also noteworthy is the Ataídes manor, a palace that belonged to João Gonçalves Athaíde de Figueiredo, Count of Atouguia, lord of the Lands of Vinhais, Paçó, Vilar Sêco de Lomba and Monforte de Rio Livre.

The Smuggling Museum is housed in an old building with vernacular architecture. It includes a material collection, consisting of everyday items that were traded illegally between the two neighboring countries, and an immaterial collection, corresponding to the survey and recording of the testimonies and experiences of the population that actively participated in this smuggling activity.
