The Arruda Municipality is located about 30 km north of Lisbon in an area of ??confluence between the west, the ribatejo and the saloia region, at the gates of the capital.

Arruda dos Vinhos is a Portuguese town in the District of Lisbon, in the Center and West sub-regions, with 13 391 inhabitants. [1]

It is the seat of a small municipality, subdivided into 4 parishes. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Alenquer, to the east and southeast by Vila Franca de Xira, to the south by Loures, to the west by Mafra and to the northwest by Sobral de Monte Agraço.

Arruda dos Vinhos is located in a mild valley, with fertile soils covered by several water courses. It was formed from sedimentary materials deposited in the Cenozoic and Jurassic era, belonging to the continental strip where volcanic activity existed until the end of the upper Cretaceous, 70 million years ago.

The most significant patrimony of the Municipality besides the Mother Church and the Forts of the Lines of Torres, are the Pombaline Fountain of 1789, the Aqueduct, the Palace of the Morgado, the Chapel of São Lázaro the Hospital and Chapel of the Misericord, the School Conde Ferreira , the Former Paços do Concelho, the Church of S. Lourenço and the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Ajuda in the parish of Arranhó, the Church of S. Miguel Arcanjo in the parish of Cardosas, and the Church of S. Tiago, in parish of S. Tiago dos Velhos.

The Municipality of Arruda dos Vinhos also has a very interesting natural heritage, characterized by its sunny valleys “painted” with vineyards and crops, converging in a unique landscape that all the Arrudenses affectionately like to call “manta de patchwork ”. This harmony results in an almost perfect symbiosis between the rural and the urban, which invites the practice of different outdoor activities, such as hiking, mountain biking, equestrian activities, paragliding, geocaching, aeromodelling, etc.

From an early age Arruda dos Vinhos was an important center of wine production, but today the development and expansion of wine-growing activity in a large part of the territory of the municipality remains, located in one of the best wine production regions in the country. In terms of gastronomy, the municipality of Arruda dos Vinhos has dozens of restaurants and snack bars, where you can taste a little of everything, from the different dishes of cod and fish, to the grilled meats, with an abundance of typical sweets either from the saloia region, or from a Ribatejo that insists on advertising itself.
