Located in the São Pedro Palace, one of the most important examples of Portuguese civil architecture, from the mid-century. XVIII, is the Museum of Natural History of Funchal.

Various species of fish, birds, marine reptiles, terrestrial and marine mammals, insects, invertebrates and plants are on display, as well as a collection of rocks and minerals from the Madeira archipelago and marine fossils from the island of Porto Santo. In total, the museum's collections make up more than 37,000 copies.
The building also houses the museum's Scientific Library and the Municipal Aquarium.
