The Quinta has a strong historical connection to the city, as it was here the second residence of the family of the first donating captain of the Island, João Gonçalves Zarco.

It includes the former residence of Morgados das Cruzes, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Piedade and a garden that includes an Orchidarium and the Archaeological Park, composed of architectural elements originating from demolitions of several buildings in the city.
Open to the public since 1953, its vast collection consists of works of art, Portuguese and foreign furniture, pieces of jewelery and jewelery, as well as ceramic and sculpture pieces.
The collections cover quite different contents, dating from the 15th century to the first half of the 20th century, and are divided into several nuclei, from Painting, Jewelery, Furniture, Jewelery, Sculpture, Drawings and Engravings, Ceramics, among others. The space also offers its visitors an Educational Service, by prior appointment, which includes various activities, from guided guided tours and thematic to educational workshops with activities of plastic expression.
It also has a Library and a Cafeteria / Restaurant.
