Located in the center of Funchal, the Sé Catedral had been erected during the reign of Dom Manuel, acquiring characteristic features of the Manueline and Gothic era, features that later aggregate characteristics of later styles inside.
Rua do Aljube, 9000-067
Funchal
Its façade, divided into three panels, features a beautiful Gothic portal in the central cloth, composed of Cabo Girão stonework.
The Gothic portal features eight archivolts in pointed arch, giving the imposing entrance. Over the years, the cathedral has acquired new characteristics, making it an example of artistic miscegenation.
Its ceiling is an exquisite example of Mudejar decoration made of cedar from the island, needing special attention, as well as the chancel chair.
