Teleférico da Madeira
In the 20th century, the connection between Funchal and Monte was made by a steam train. His travels were a memorable experience for those who visited us and the memories of that time are still present in the city's imagination. Almost a century later, there is another unique way to get to Monte: via the cable car. Located in the Old Town, this means of transport has the capacity to transport 800 people per hour, in a total of 39 cabins with eight seats.

Description
The construction of this attraction was a pioneering process, since it is partially implanted in an urban environment, flying over some buildings in the city. The project was marked by several engineering challenges, from the construction of the foundations and the assembly of the intermediate support towers, which involved the movement of huge metal structures to places of difficult access, to the placement of the steel cable along a distance of 3200m. The trip takes about 15 minutes, with a difference of 560 meters.
The route allows you to observe the city from a unique perspective, starting the journey with the landscape of the urban fabric, being gradually replaced by green hills and valleys, with the backdrop of the Funchal bay. People with reduced mobility can enjoy this experience very comfortably, since both arrival and departure stations are prepared to assist passengers who need help with boarding and disembarking.
The trip ends in a charming setting, in one of the most emblematic areas of Funchal, full of history, where you can visit various attractions that will enrich your journey through this location. These range from the Igreja do Monte, where the tomb of D. Carlos I, the last emperor of Austria, is located, to the Monte Palace Tropical Garden or the Municipal Park, where you can enjoy the green landscape, passing by the viewpoint to the bay.
It is also possible to try the traditional basket cars, which will provide moments of true emotion and adrenaline.
