Place where, according to legend, the rider jumped and fell with the horse, but from the point of view of geology it becomes equally interesting, since it is inserted in a region made up of a set of rocks, the oldest in the Iberian Peninsula, that make up the Iberian Massif. Locally, pre-cambrian and paleozoic rocks predominate, with a predominance of schist and quartzite rocks, strongly deformed and fractured.
Largo da Senhora do Salto 4585-003 Aguiar de Sousa
Paredes
Here the Sousa River passes through the quartzite rocks which, due to its hardness and resistance to erosion, form a very tight and deep valley with vertical slopes. In the stretches of schist rocks, with softer characteristics, the valley is opened forming meanders and alluvial deposits.
In this place, the presence of rapids, the sequence of small curves and perfectly vertical slopes combine to offer a landscape of rare beauty.
