Avenida do Mosteiro 4580-670 Vilela
Paredes
Inhabited by Regent Canons of Santo Agostinho who joined, in 1595, the congregation of Santa Cruz de Coimbra and at the beginning of the 17th century, it joins in perpectuum to the Serra do Pilar Monastery. The state of ruin, accentuated by a strong storm, started the construction of the new church in 1752, as well as the reconstruction of the Monastery premises. The church, facing north, has a façade sectioned by pilasters that define the bases of the bell towers at the ends. The portal is of straight lintel crowned by inverted volutes and large window, in which is the niche with the image of Saint Augustine. Inside, the verticality of the temple is felt and the altarpieces have a symbiosis between the neoclassical carving and the rococo.
The convent complex develops parallel to the Church, composed of three volumes, in a U-shaped plan, with only the north wing adjoining the bell tower, with a portal profusely decorated to the Rococo taste. The west body is cruciform, with a porch with five semicircular arches, facing east, with access to two flights of converging stairs.
