Classified as a Monument of Public Interest, the current church of São Cristóvão de Louredo was built in the 18th century, replacing one from an earlier period that stood in another location, as indicated in the deed of the main altarpiece, dated 1715, the year in which the chancel was still being built.

The main facade, facing north, of simple lines, flanked by two bell towers, invites us to enter, where inside we find a festive exuberance evident in the altarpieces, among which the imposing main altarpiece stands out. The grandeur of this altarpiece is due to the commitment and demands imposed by the Reverend Abbot Adriano Peixoto de Andrade, parish priest of Louredo, manifested in the conclusion of the contract with the master Manuel Machado de Miranda, on September 1, 1715. The exquisite altarpiece fits in the so-called National Style, where the profuse decoration and the quality of the carving causes a visual impact on the visitor. Organized by spiral columns and semicircular archivolts, they define the tribune and the Eucharistic throne. The splendid carved and gilded woodwork is expressed in a decorative grammar of Eucharistic symbolism, manifested in the vine leaves, in the bunches of grapes, in the phoenix birds and in the children. In the lateral and collateral altarpieces, they maintain the same artistic language with special emphasis on full-size statuary, whose features arouse devotional emotions.
