Casa do Infante, named after Henrique the Navigator was born there, is a complex of buildings that were being built to house the services of the Crown in Porto.

Description

Its history goes back to 1325, when King D. Afonso IV ordered the construction of the royal “Almazem”, against the will of the Bishop, then lord of Burgo. The building was the object of a process of rehabilitation and musealisation and today offers a set of diversified features: Museum; Municipal Historical Archive; Library of Oporto Affairs; Memory Room; Exhibition hall and auditorium.

The Museum is part of the Interpretive Center “O Infante D. Henrique and the New Worlds”, where Infante D. Henrique is made known by diachronically traversing his iconography until contemporary times and revisiting the main landmarks of Portuguese Discoveries, with emphasis on the paper the city and the people of Porto; the Roman occupation, constituted by the remains of the Roman constructions of the IV-V centuries; the Alfândega Régia, created by D. Afonso IV in 1325; and the Casa da Moeda, which started operating in 1369.
