Póvoa de Varzim
With an extensive and easily accessible beach, a sea rich in iodine, a mild temperature, a jagged coast forming cozy coves, an intense marine life in the rocky masses near the beach ...
Póvoa beach, a 19th century nobleman's attraction pole, continues to be the meeting point for people of all origins, social classes and age groups, coming from all over Portugal, mainly from the North, and also registers a great influx of foreigners of various nationalities. It is easily identified by the typical striped cloth tents, in bright colors, which lend a lively and cheerful color to the beach and protect bathers from the north. The ease of access to the beach is one of its main and most attractive features. A small wall separates the beach from the city from a long and wide promenade - Av. Dos Banhos - with a length of about 2 km, which acts as an authentic viewpoint over the Atlantic and is a privileged place of meeting and conviviality throughout the year. Even outside the bathing season, this area is naturally busy, making it an ideal place for hiking, cycling (cycle path) and different sports.
Well-known and popular leisure spaces are located on the beach, from traditional cafes, clubs and support structures of great quality and aesthetic refinement. Also close to the beach are important sports complexes, such as the Municipal Swimming Pools (indoor Olympic pool); Swimming pools at Clube Desportivo da Póvoa (covered and uncovered); Sports Pavilion of the Clube Desportivo da Póvoa and the Municipal Tennis Academy.
