Caminhos de Santiago

From Portugal there are several known paths and, in the Póvoa de Varzim Municipality, there are two paths: one inland, the so-called Central Way, passing through S. Pedro de Rates and which is the most pilgrims of all races and creeds leads to Compostela. Here the first Hostel in Portugal was created, a model followed in many other counties.

Description

For pilgrims who want to go closer to the sea, there has been the Caminho da Costa for some years (about 250km to Santiago, from Porto) which, entering Póvoa through the old Rua dos Ferreiros and crossing the city center, passes through Albergue de S. José and goes to the coast, between beaches, dunes and masses until the neighboring municipality of Esposende.
