In order to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life and the democratization of society, in a space of sociability open to all, without exception, the City Council of Valongo inaugurated, on June 17, 2005, the new Municipal Library.

Description
With a modern architectural design and large areas of culture and leisure, the Municipal Library of Valongo offers all those who visit it a variety of information media, supported by new technologies. The space is equipped with a section for children and young people, a section for adults, a multipurpose room and an external auditorium. Access to the library is free and governed by its own regulation. Local consultation is available, including journals, and home loan service. Complementing this cultural equipment are two reading centers, one installed at the Centro Cultural de Alfena and the other at Vila Beatriz, in Ermesinde. Both have a children's section and an adult section.
