The church built in the 17th century (1671) with a single nave and a harmonious Baroque design is dedicated to S.to André. Most of its heritage is from the 19th century. XVIII. It has decorative tiles and gilded carvings inside that make this temple the maximum exponent of the Baroque in the municipality of Valongo.
Largo do Passal, 4440-337 Sobrado
Valongo
The main altarpiece, made in a period of coexistence between the Baroque and the Rococo, receives two well-achieved images of S.to André and S. Francisco de Assis. To overcome the altarpiece, two curious allegories of Faith and Hope. Noteworthy is the perfect carving work on the chancel ceiling, which look more like embroideries made of wood, where they are represented from birds to musician angels. The Supper of Christ, by the famous painter Francisco José de Resende, is worth mentioning. The construction of the bell tower is a later project, completed only in 1874. The parish house of 1691 has undergone recent interventions. In the surroundings there is a granite fountain also baroque. At Passal, where there is a cruise and a sculptural element dedicated to Bugios and Mourisqueiros, it is where, on the day of S. João, the traditional Bugiadas and Mouriscadas take place.
