In 2001, the centenary of José Régio's birth, the Municipal Library of Vila do Conde occupies the current facilities, taking the name of the poet. In a building conceived from scratch, where the different services and services recommended in the UNESCO Manifesto on Public Libraries, integrated in the National Public Library Network, were installed, finally Vila do Conde sees an old aspiration realized.

Description

This equipment has several extension services, such as the Itinerant Library, Libraries and Beach Libraries. It provides support to School Libraries, implementing the entire installation process in primary schools and providing technical advice to institutions at other levels of education. Vila do Conde is one of the first municipalities, at the national level, to have its catalog on the internet and, simultaneously, to create a municipal collective catalog integrating the 2nd and 3rd cycle basic schools and the secondary schools.
