It is up to the shipbuilding designer to plan and execute the technical project, namely "to throw the risk to the room", that is, to design the shapes that will shape the main parts of a vessel. The full-scale geometric plane is drawn on a wooden platform on the floor, using rulers and ferrules.

Vila do Conde
Aware of the current situation experienced in the sector of the naval wood industry, which is still so important and identitary in Vila do Conde, the municipality proposed, through the project “Vila do Conde - a port for the World”, the submission of the registration of Construction and Repair Techniques Madeira Naval in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage, with the final objective of preparing an application for the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (UNESCO).
The project “Vila do Conde - a port for the World” aims to promote the protection of this ancestral know-how, which is in the hands of Vila-Condenses, thus guaranteeing its continuity for generations to come.
The exhibition “With a Risk, a boat is made”, shown at Casa do Barco / Loja Interativa de Turismo and which is part of the project “Vila do Conde - a port for the World”, aims to show the techniques and associated processes to wooden shipbuilding. Among its contents, the process of the risk room stands out, the art of transforming the design of a vessel into a detailed drawing at full scale, whose purpose is to design the shapes of its constituent parts.
The visit to this space is free, but group visits require prior appointment with the Museum of Vila do Conde (museus@cm-viladoconde.pt or by calling 252 248 468).
Thus, Vila do Conde has yet another space dedicated to the memory of the know-how of wooden shipbuilding, being a complement to the museological nuclei of Alfândega Régia / Museu da Construção Naval and Nau Quinhentista.
