With a known chronology of occupation from the 4th century BC to the 4th century A.D. (based on a ceramological analysis), the City of Bagunte is known, from an early age, as an ancient settlement. In the 18th century, Jerónimo Contador de Argote, quoting the book from the Counties, mentions the existence, in Monte da Cividade, of the ruins of an ancient city. It is a village of enormous dimensions, with more than 50 hectares of interesting area. This village is the object of a cultural dynamism project - the Bagunte archaeological field.

Vila do Conde
Cividade de Bagunte is located in the northeast of the municipality of Vila do Conde, on an elevation (Monte da Cividade) that reaches 206 meters of altitude and where water lines are born that mostly drain into the East River. It constitutes the highest point of the parish, a ridge that separates the basins of Rio Este and Rio Ave (to the northwest and southeast respectively).
A pre-Roman settlement, it has a complex system of walls. In archaeological excavations, the “Bagunte torques” were found, five silver jewels that attest to the importance and artistic level of this community. It is a village of enormous dimensions, with more than 50 hectares of area of interest
