In 1141, D. Afonso Henriques issued a letter to the monastery with a very wide perimeter, occupying the territory of the current parishes of Vairão, Macieira, Fornelo and Gião, as well as donating his regas of Crasto and Azevedo. In 1895, the monastery passed to the religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, who founded a school there, and the school, in 1898/1910, was administered by the nuns.
