It is the third most populous municipality in the country, with more than 300,000 inhabitants, succeeding Lisbon and Sintra and the most populous in the North.

Internationally known for its Port and Douro wine companies, automotive, glass and electronic components industry, for its artists: musicians, painters, sculptors and architects, and for the tourist activities that welcome thousands of visitors per year, being one of the largest municipalities in the region and the country, Gaia is a city that has enormous development potential in front of it.

Vila Nova de Gaia is an important city in the north of Portugal, county seat, located on the south bank of the Douro River in front of the city of Porto.

The origin of the city possibly dates back to a Celtic castro.

It was during the 18th century that the Port Wine Warehouses were installed, which at that time was already one of the largest industries in the region.

Traditional and tourist cruises are also another strong point of the city, as are the bars located on the riverside

In gastronomic terms, Vila Nova de Gaia is rich in fish dishes.

The gastronomic specialties are lamprey and shad, made in different ways, and sardines, accompanied with peppers, bread and olives. One of the national landmarks made in this city is the famous bread of Avintes, oval in shape, brown in color, sprinkled with flour by the agile hands of the bakers.
