In the center of Gaia the visitor finds the house and the studio of António Teixeira Lopes (1866-1942). Because a house is always the mirror of those who live in it, here we can get to know the personality, tastes and habits of one of the greatest Portuguese sculptors of all time.

Description

In addition to the surprising artistic production of Mestre, this space houses a rich collection of Decorative Arts (with collections of furniture, ceramics, textiles, glass, jewelery, etc.) and a significant core of Portuguese painting with works by Alfredo Keil, António Carneiro , António Ramalho, Aurélia de Sousa, Domingos Sequeira, Henrique Pousão, João Vaz, José Malhoa, Silva Porto, Sousa Pinto, Vieira Lusitano, Vieira Portuense, among others.

The permanent exhibition in the galleries presents the work of the sculptor Diogo de Macedo (1889-1959) to the public, which includes his sculptural works as well as his production in the field of drawing and painting. Diogo de Macedo gathered an extraordinary collection of art throughout his life. We highlight from this valuable collection, the collection of Black Art and the Modernist Painting nucleus where we find paintings by Abel Manta, Almada Negreiros, Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso, Carlos Botelho, Dórdio Gomes, Eduardo Viana, Júlio Pomar, Mário Eloy, among others. The existence of a room for temporary exhibitions is an invitation for the public to visit this space frequently and with curiosity.
