Sistelo was originally a medieval Póvoa, from whose period traces seem to survive in elements such as the implantation of the cruise, the fountain or the organization of the houses. The most prominent architectural element, however, is much more recent. It is called the "Casa do Castelo", a revivalist palace with a rectangular plan, with two towers with battlements flanking the frontispiece and a Neogothic deposit.

The complex, which dominates a natural landscape of undeniable beauty, was built in the second half of the 19th century by a native of the parish returning from Brazil, and first Viscount of Sistelo, Manuel A. Gonçalves Roque. Source: https://www.visitarcos.pt/
