It is one of the best known Portuguese towns, integrated in the Peneda-Gerês National Park. Its 16th century pillory is unique in its kind and one of the most enigmatic examples of its kind, sharing its value with a remarkable set of 24 granaries, entirely in granite and based on a huge rocky outcrop, true ex-libris of the village.

Arcos de Valdevez
D. Manuel granted him Foral and Vila privileges in 1514; was a municipality, covering the parishes of Ermelo and Gavieira, being integrated in that of Arcos de Valdevez as a result of the liberal reforms of the 19th century. Comprising a central nucleus, Soajo integrates several places: Neighborhoods, Careers, Costa Velha, Cruises, Eiró, Fraga da mó, Lage, Raposeiras, Rio Bom, Teso, Torre and Concieiro. Away from the village, there are still the places of Adrão, Campo Grande, Cunhas, Paradela, Vilar Suente and Vilarinho das Quartas
