Initially it was located in the far north of the Terreiro, but, after the liberal wars, the Chamber ordered the demolition of the pillory that existed in the square and the fountain was moved to the place it now occupies, having undergone some modifications.
The Renaissance style is evident in the classicism of its lines and in its decoration, of which the frowns stand out, being one of the most important fountains in the North of Portugal and Galicia. Source: https://www.cm-caminha.pt/
