Among the narrow streets of the historic center of the village, there is the Igreja Matriz, also known as Igreja de Santa Maria da Porta - name borrowed from it because it is close to the main door of the primitive castle. Although its construction dates back to 1187, the configuration that we can appreciate today is the result of the successive renovations to which it was subjected.

Go through one of these portals, which is located on the main façade, taking the opportunity to get to know the interior, where in the left side chapel stands an altarpiece dating from the end of the 16th century, by António Figueiroa.
Back outside, look at the bell tower and the details that surround the portal. Going around the church, you will find, on the north side, an interesting relief figure topping the portal - according to some authors, it is a wolf, while others claim to be a lion. A peculiar detail in a construction of a religious nature.
After absorbing all these details, take advantage of the proximity to some regional restaurants to take a break to comfort your stomach.
