The municipality of Monção has several walking trails in different parts of the municipality with equally different levels of difficulty. Apart from the Cova da Moura Trail, in Gadanha Valley, and the Fisheries Trail, in Bela, the rest are located in mountain areas.
.
Monção
The paths, punctuated by inspiring and reassuring landscapes, reveal a unique natural heritage (Carvalheira de Abedim), legends that have reached our days (Cova da Moura) or vestiges of a proud past such as stone-lined paths, windmills or the mamôas (Path of the Dead).
On the Santo António de Vale de Poldros Trail, a journey of eleven kilometers in the mountainous parishes of Riba de Mouro and Tangil, you can see cardenhas (typical houses of the brandas), foals (small horses) in full freedom, and the “barracks” , places for pilgrims to shelter. The fishing trail, in Bela, takes us to the river bucolism.
The walking routes are marked in both directions, according to the rules of the Portuguese Mountaineering Federation. Despite your identification, we advise the accompaniment of a guide due to the high value of information it provides and to guarantee the safety of the hiker.
