Morgado do Curutelo was established by Nuno Viegas do Rego and his wife around 1395. Like many sunny palaces built in Alto Minho at the beginning of the 16th century, the Paço do Curutelo combines the symmetry and regularity of Renaissance civil architecture with the medieval keep, which at the time no longer had a defensive role, but which symbolized nobility and power of the owners.
