The name of this legendary river is associated with the word Lethes, which in Greek means forgetfulness. The Romans called it Limia and the legend goes that they dealt with the myth of forgetfulness, near the village of Ponte de Lima. It was believed that whoever crossed it would lose their memory.

Born on Mount Talarinho, passes through Xinzo de Limia and travels through part of Galicia until reaching Portugal. On the route is Ponte de Lima, flowing into the Atlantic Ocean in Viana do Castelo.
He gave part of the name to the village and always played a relevant role in the life of the population. It was navigable, good fishing was taken from it, the washerwomen rubbed their clothes and the Limian children played in it.
