The building of the old Alfândega includes a panel of painting on a tablet, on the wall facing the river, with the representation of a mermaid strumming a zither, by master Júlio Resende. On the opposite side there is a bronze sculpture, one of the first contemporary works of art placed in Portugal, called Ritmos de Primavera, by Arlindo Rocha, from 1961.
