Founded in 1920 by Joaquim Simões de Freitas, in the place where Casa Marisa is today, continuing the Ourivesaria Lopes, installed there, since 1880 and that was already owned by a relative of the founder. In 1945 the OURIVESARIA FREITAS, moved to the building where it is currently built for the purpose, having kept the same aspect since it was installed here, having passed by inheritance, to the present owner, in 1975. This commercial establishment is located, in the heart of the historical center, between the Republic Square and the Mother Church in R. Sacadura Cabral, inside the old walls.

Since always it has been the concern of Ourivesaria Freitas to privilege Traditional Portuguese Goldsmithing, keeping since its foundation one of the shop windows dedicated exclusively to these beautiful pieces.

On August 13, 2007, we opened the Museum of Traditional Portuguese Goldsmiths in which we exhibited a collection of about 800 old pieces of great museological value and which, together with the goldsmith shop, were violently assaulted on September 6, 2007, having disappeared most of the pieces.

We reopened the Museum on December 16, 2008 with spare parts, others we still had spare, others offered by Vianenses and reproductions if many of the pieces stolen, offered, mostly by manufacturers.

At present we have exhibited numerous antique manufacturing utensils as well as dozens of jewelry designs.

This museum, until 14 February 2008, was visited by about 10,000 people.
