Viana do Castelo
After the former meeting place of the municipality was occupied by the church of Santa Maria Maior (today Sé), this Town Hall was built outside the doors at the beginning of the 16th century. It is, like so many other similar constructions in Northwest Hispanic, a two-storey building, with the "Câmara" on the upper floor where the town council met and on the ground floor an archway for the protection of people and scribes who wrote, for the illiterate, requirements and other documents addressed to the Chamber.
