Edifício da Misericórdia e Igreja (Séc. XVI)

Having been created in 1520, the Misericórdia de Viana brotherhood developed in such a way that, at the beginning of the second quarter of the 16th century, the table decided to build the so-called "Casa das Varandas". This building, dating from 1589, is a unique example of Renaissance and Mannerist-inspired architecture, with Italian and Flemish influences

Viana do Castelo

Description

In 1716, the remodeling of the church began, handed over to the Viennese military engineer Manuel Pinto de Vilalobos.

It has a great decorative richness inside, well according to the taste of the time, either because of the national style carving by Ambrósio Coelho, or for the beautiful tile coverings, painted by Policarpo de Oliveira Bernardes, or for the ceiling frescoes by Manuel Gomes.

It is undoubtedly one of the best Baroque examples in the whole country.
