In 1716, the remodeling of the church began, handed over to the Viennese military engineer Manuel Pinto de Vilalobos.
It has a great decorative richness inside, well according to the taste of the time, either because of the national style carving by Ambrósio Coelho, or for the beautiful tile coverings, painted by Policarpo de Oliveira Bernardes, or for the ceiling frescoes by Manuel Gomes.
It is undoubtedly one of the best Baroque examples in the whole country.
