The metal bridge was ordered to be built in 1872 by King D. Luís I for crossing the Douro River and deactivated since 1949 due to the degraded state of the wooden board. On this date, the intervention promoted in partnership by the Municipality of Peso da Régua and Estradas de Portugal on the metal bridge, allows the reuse of the structure, in a unique urban and landscape context, with a more appropriate use to its pre-existing characteristics and in connection with the network of walking paths at the high and low elevation of the Douro River with high polarizing capacity.
