The territory of the county of Ribeira de Pena is an old territory, having been occupied since prehistory. Situated on the border between Minho and Trás-os-Montes, this territory is characterized by the richness of its natural and cultural heritage, of which many are classified.

In order to preserve this heritage and raise awareness of the importance of its conservation, the Ribeira de Pena Municipality created the Ribeira de Pena Ecomuseum, with nuclei throughout the territory. You can see rock engravings, castles, necropolises, objects of various times and also the monuments left by the Romans, such as roads and bridges.

Besides this patrimony, the county of Ribeira de Pena has another great wealth, the gastronomy. The fish fry, the Beça river trout, the roasted kid and the Maronesa veal are some of the most common dishes. For dessert we have the sweet marinades and the sweet sarrabulho, the chila in the oven and the apples Pipo de Basto.
