It is in a relatively isolated forest area, in Travessa dos Sanatórios that we find erected, facing the sea, the complex of Clínica Heliântia and the Sanitario Marítimo do Norte.

The construction of these spaces in a forested area and close to the water meets the concept formulated by Arnold Rikli, a Swiss doctor, who said that "Water is beneficial; the air is even more, but the light is better." After his visit to Switzerland, Doctor Ferreira Alves decided to design a space dedicated to Heliotherapy (sun therapy).
In 1930 the Heliântia Clinic was inaugurated. Hence, this hospital building was designed according to sunlight, due to its beneficial action, presenting the facades, east and west, in the form of stepped balconies, marked by the pace of the openings and fractionation through pillars. A prominent aspect is the use, as a decorative element, of the sunflower, a plant of the genus Heliânthus that may have been the origin of the name of the clinic.
In the 19th-20th century there was even an outbreak of construction of this kind of spaces, all over the world, namely after the appearance of tuberculosis and other respiratory diseases, which had a large affluence for treatments in these places.
