The Monastery originated in a small church, founded in the 10th century, under the invocation of São Salvador. The 1572 floor plan includes the church, cloister and sacristy. The church was completed and blessed in 1626 and occupies an outstanding area in the set. With a single nave with a chancel, it also has three chapels and an altar on each side.

Next to the high choir there is a pipe organ from the late 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century that has recently been restored. In the 18th century, its interior was renovated. The decorative arts of tiles and carvings, characteristic of the Baroque, fill its interior, with emphasis on the chancel.
In 1998, the façade, accusing Flemish influences, was enriched with stained glass, designed by Mestre Júlio Resende, representing the Trinity and Creation.
The sacristy is a vast, almost quadrangular space with walls completely covered in tiles in polychrome carpet.
In the cloister the tile panels stand out, representing the evangelists and doctors of the church and in the center a fountain from the beginning of the 17th century. Of note is the tomb, from the 13th century, of D. Rodrigo Sanches, made of ançã stone, classified as a National Monument.
