It is a biographical and monographic museum, dedicated to the life and work of Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro (1846-1905), an important figure in the cultural, artistic and political environment of Lisbon in the second half of the 19th century. With a very diverse work from the point of view of the visual arts, especially in the fields of graphics and ceramics, he became famous as a caricaturist, playing an important, and at times, striking role as a critic of his contemporary society.

The Museum's collection comprises the most complete collection of Portuguese Bordeaux ceramics, with its characteristic hypernaturalism, as well as an extensive exhibition of paintings, original drawings and publications.
